MPM107 Summary

4 Oct

(Original)

The article “Working the Twittersphere” discusses many aspects of the social media network of Twitter. It is discussed in this article how Twitter is used, and the new approaches people are using it for. It is discussed how the different people are using it for more than just personal reasons. It discussed how different professionals have been looked at on a case-by-case situation with this idea of using it for other aspects other than personal, and how sometimes the results are good and sometimes not so much.  It also discussed that professionals can use it to gather information to better their companies. It was discussed through the whole article how it is important to take control of what you want people to see you as through your social media. It discussed about establishing yourself in a way so that people will still view you as a professional.

(Evaluation)

This review made some basic points about the article, but it was missing where the work was from (using a work cited) so someone can see where to read the parts you are discussing. It was broad, which can be okay because it is just supposed to discuss what the main ideas of the article. The review only discussed a few of the points made, but did not elaborate on any of them. Some points were repeated, so I would go back and look at what has been repeated and combine ideas to reduce reputation. I think if you were to just review, add some work cited, made it clearer and non repetitive it would help the summary.

(Re-Write)

The article “Working the Twittersphere” discusses many aspects of the social media network of Twitter. What I found the article reapeated was the discussion of a few ideas. The first being how Twitter is used, and the new approaches people are using it for such as using it for professional reason, “he growth of online communication environments has been seen by many scholars and practitioners as an opportunity to extend the reach of public relations efforts to a larger number of current and potential organizational stakeholders. To manage these networks of relationships, many practitioners have become active users of social media..” (Glipin, 232). It also discussed that professionals can use it to gather information to better their business or to “[build] relationships rather than relying on media reports for publicity and image enhancement”(Glipin 246). Basically, this shows how someone can use a network such as Twitter to help the way the public view their business, without needing someone else (advertiser, marketer) to give them an identity; the average person can see the page and come to their own conclusions. It was also discussed through the whole article how it is important to take control of what you want people to see through your Twitter. It discussed establishing yourself in a way so that people will still view you as a professional, which all can relate back to that last quote taken from the article, because of this big emphasis of being able to create your own image.
